In 1895 the Swiss entrepreneur Max Meyer establishes in Milan the "Colorificio Italiano" that today is still bearing his name.
It is a medium size company, which employs about 50 people, situated in the heart of the growing industrial city of Milan.
Paint is still a product which has a limited use but its protective properties are widely known.
Colors in powder and dispersed in linsed oil begin to build up their importance.
During the first national expo of decorative arts, MaxMeyer presents a first selection of 12 colours of "oil paint with fine dispersed pigments".
At the beginning of the century, with the evolution of the car manufacturing industry, Max Meyer becomes one of the most important suppliers of this field with Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and will continue this adventure till the end of the Eighties, developing for these companies special tailor-made products which respond to the request of the specific market.
"A PUPPY ENTERS INTO THE HISTORY OF THE ILLUSTRATED ADVERTISEMENT"
The poster of the puppy biting a brush and looking with its sweetie eyes at a spilled paint can, has entered the history of advertisement and peoples' imagination.
This proves that MaxMeyer, since the beginning, has always dedicated a special attention to its own image, realizing always appealing posters, brands and packaging.
In this period, that of II world war, MaxMeyer must move its attention to army supplies. Companies such as Breda, Caproni and Agusta are therefore amongst its major clients and MaxMeyer develops specific products for this important industry.
At the end of the war, due to its improved knowledge, MaxMeyer is born again as a real chemical industry with a high technology background, conquering the leadership on the Italian market and expanding its international presence.
MAXMEYER PRODUCTS REACH SUCCESS.
In the middle of the Fifties, the fast growing Italian industry carries the whole national economy.
Thanks to this "economical boom", a great requirement arises for new and various consumptions.
People are willing to spend their money to improve and embellish their houses and MaxMeyer meets this trend with the large series of high quality products of simple use and easy available through its diffused sale network .
The product leader of this period is TINTAL, the first water-borne pigmented emulsion paint, presented in 1953 with a rich selection of colours.
MaxMeyer is now one of the most important production plants in Europe.
The discovery of colours and its diffusion outside and inside the house represents a real revolution, a new life philosophy that will consolidate in the following decades.
1980-1989
In 1980 MaxMayer, buys from Montedison, the greatest Italian group, the company DUCO: its biggest competitor in Italy.
The merge of the two companies in 1981 gives life to the widest distribution network of painting product.
In 1989 the Research and Development department of MaxMeyer, invents the SPECTROPHOTOMETER Delta and Crom, receiving several international awards.
With the spectrophotometer it is possible to read a colour on any support and its software gives back the formula to reproduce the same colour in the required product.
In 1995 MaxMeyer celebrates its 100th Birthday.
In the same year MaxMeyer starts a Joint Venture in China with Gaoven Chemical Industries of Shandong for the evaluation of painting products.
MaxMeyer also presents a special software for the preview of the colours on the various buildings. The software allows the 3D view of all the range of products in many interior and exterior locations with the possibility to change different details.
